Diesel engine main journal bearings, bottom end bearings, Piston, cylinder liner, top end bearing, crankshaft damages over the last 10 years on classed ships

It is extremely difficult to obtain entire statistical information about damage cases on the aforementioned components.

The only available trustworthy source could be found at Lloyd's Register of Shipping, London.

From this information could be roughly deduced 4.000 damage cases p.a. as mentioned under assumption of a 20% share of LRS by IACS classed ships.

Taken into account the assumed net repair costs of 25.000 US$ average for each damage case a total amount of 100.000.000 US$ have to be deplored.
With this amount incredible 10.000 engines could have been protected.

It seems that this assessment is surely closer to the lower level of assumptions.
