Information
not only about damage cases inside engines are hard
to obtain, even crankcase explosions of engines are
hardly published.
As mentioned before, Lloyd's
Register of Shipping, London indicates 117 crankcase
explosions
over a period of ten years. This allows the assumption
of roughly 60 explosions p.a. for ships being classed
under the IACS.
For
the Analyst it seems impossible to make here an assessment
of lost money or even about injured human's health or
lost life.
There are published explosion events which caused single
expenses between 500.000 US$ and 25.000.000 US$ each.
Even less known are details about suffered injuries
or death.
